Just out of my probationary period as a firefighter in the Summer of ’95 and before my transfer to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. I have surprisingly few photographs of my time with the Fire Service; most of it being in the days before digital cameras and high resolution camera phones. They were truly great times. This image (along with another) was given to me by a photographer from a local newspaper who happened to be on the scene at a particularly large grass fire. The Summer of 1995 was one of the hottest I can recall and I can vividly remember driving into work, ready to begin a shift, and seeing plume after plume of smoke, wondering which if them we would be attending.
